Taylor and Austin’s paths first crossed at Purdue University where they both studied Mechanical Engineering. While they shared one class together, Business Law, and graduated the same Spring, they never spoke. Taylor and Austin officially met at their first industry jobs in San Diego at Solar Turbines. After a few weeks they went on their first date to the Del Mar horse races and to dinner at a beach-side restaurant, Poseidon. The rest is history.

A few months later Austin adopted Trooper, their pointer-lab mix. Trooper quickly turned out to be a lot to handle (not much has changed) and Taylor swiftly moved into their Pacific Beach apartment as Trooper and Austin needed the emotional support.

After a few years of living in Pacific Beach together, Taylor and Austin decided it was time for another challenge and moved to Houston, Texas. Austin decided to go to Law School and Taylor began working at the Johnson Space Center on the VIPER rover. Eventually Taylor’s competitiveness didn’t allow Austin to have more degrees than her and she decided to get an MBA from Rice University.

In the Spring of 2023 Austin and Taylor again graduated within days of one another. While this time they graduated from different programs, they did so together. During the Summer of 2023 Taylor worked for a venture capital fund while Austin freeloaded and spent his free time studying for the Bar Exam. By the Fall of 2023, both had begun their new careers, Taylor as a consultant at McKinsey & Co., and Austin as an Intellectual Property Attorney at Patterson+Sheridan.

No longer having the excuse that “they were still in school” and “he was studying for the bar,” Austin decided to propose. After a long couple of months of sneaking around (with only a few instances of almost ruining the surprise), the plan eventually worked out. To this day, Taylor holds the opinion that it is a “red flag” that Austin could keep a secret for two and a half months, no matter how good the secret was.

The day after Christmas in 2023, Austin proposed to Taylor at the beach down the street from their first apartment where they used to take Trooper when he was a puppy. It was exactly how you see it in movies, Austin stood there standing with a ring-box (not on a knee and not saying a word) and Taylor exclaimed, “is this a joke?”
